da jogodeouro: As the Cesc Fabregas saga raged on throughout the summer, one piece of transfer activity at the Emirates may well have slipped under the net. The signing of Mauroane Chamakh from French side Bordeaux on a bosman may prove pivotal in the absence of Robin Van Persie and given the nature of the deal, Arsene Wenger may have himself the coup of the summer.
At Bordeaux he was pivotal to their attack, leading the line and scoring goals a plenty in both the Champions League and Ligue 1 respectively and his moment is also a sublime feature of his game. He often looks to drop deep and receive the ball, laying it back to a creative midfielder and making a forward run which could be an integral part of Arsenal’s play given Wenger’s preferred system with one up front.
His Champions League prowess and quality will certainly be a major asset whilst his fox in the box style may have Wenger eulogising over the Moroccan in weeks to come. If Arsenal can utilise his heading ability then it may give a different dimension to their attack. He often looks to get in the box early and quality delivery could see a high success rate of headed goals. And he has recently admitted to being delighted at his early adaptation to life in the Premier League. He said:
“I have settled in quickly and things couldn’t have gone much better from that point of view, I gave myself six months or maybe even a year to settle down here and I am ahead of schedule in that respect. I am delighted with how it is going, although training has been very tough for me.”
“I don’t think I have ever worked as hard as this physically, but here I am experiencing everything I had envisaged about Arsenal and the English league.”
And if he continues to settle so quickly, then Arsenal may see one of their best signings for years in terms of class when offset against the non-existent transfer fee. Manchester City were the big spenders this summer but recent injuries to Theo Walcott, Robin Van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner have highlighted the shrewd nature of the move and a distinctive reprieve from limited firepower at the Emirates.
Arsenal have struggled in recent years with a plentiful injury list but it seems Chamakh has slotted into the lone strikers role with ease and hopefully he will continue to offer a broad brush stroke in the artistic fashion they play football instead of injuries being so prevalent in a Premier League push.
