da apostaganha: Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy believes that the club have made the right move in bringing in Fernando Llorente.
da bet7: Spurs were very quiet in the market for the majority of the transfer window, but in the last few days of business, they brought in five new faces.
Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga arrived from Southampton, while Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth also moved to the North London club.
On deadline day, Mauricio Pochettino added Serge Aurier to his squad, as well as Llorente, who The Express reported cost around £15m from Swansea City.
Chelsea were also believed to be in the running for the Spaniard’s signature, but it was Tottenham who were able to get a late deal over the line.
Murphy has praised chairman Daniel Levy for abandoning most clubs’ approach of targeting younger players, and believes that the 32-year-old is a great option.
Writing in the London Evening Standard, Murphy wrote:
“It is ridiculous to be so formulaic about transfers that you refuse to sign somebody simply because of his age, so I am relieved to see Tottenham break from their normal policy to sign Fernando Llorente from Swansea.
“I doubt Daniel Levy will make a habit of signing 32-year-old outfield players but it is a clever bit of business. Llorente should be excellent back-up for Harry Kane but, if Tottenham are chasing the game, they could play together.”
