da dobrowin: Could it finally be their year? Could it?! Maybe, yeah.
da fazobetai: Arsenal are flirting with the idea of big investment this summer and it is an absolute must if they are to genuinely compete with the big-spending Manchester clubs.
Wenger will be thinking of that one final title before he hangs up his tactics board and returns to the world of punditry (where he seems to be spending most major summer tournaments).
The spending on Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck in recent summers has suggested that Arsenal are returning to the top table of transfer negotiations. Already this summer, Granit Xhaka has been signed for a hefty fee and the club look set to add yet more world-class names throughout the coming months.
Arsenal fans will be dreaming of some enormous names arriving this summer and it is not beyond the realms of possibility. The quality of the current Arsenal squad would tempt players to join alone.
Here are SIX players that must be signed by Wenger…
Gonzalo Higuain
From Real Madrid bench-warmer to Napoli superhero, Gonzalo Higuain has proven all his doubters wrong over the past couple of seasons.
His prolific campaign last time around had fans dreaming of a bid and it could be on it’s way.
Not blessed with pace or exceptional power, Higuain’s bright movement more than compensates for this. His eye for goal is unrivalled in world football and would make Arsenal a true force.
Thiago
Santi Cazorla’s injury showed Arsenal just how key he is to them and it left Wenger a little short of midfield options.
Clearly they are not identical players, but Bayern’s Thiago Alcantara would be an ideal long-term replacement for his fellow Spaniard.
His eye for a pass makes him a regular chance creator and can play in a number of midfield roles. Whether needed as a 6, 8 or 10, Thiago will shine.
James Rodriguez
Real Madrid are used to having an embarrassment of riches in their forward line and it looks as though one of them is likely to jump ship this summer.
Whether it is Isco or James, Arsenal should be lining up a move as soon as possible.
The Gunners have plenty of depth in forward areas themselves, but it is not often the opportunity arises to sign a player of James’ class.
James, Ozil and Sanchez rotating behind a new striker? That’s titleworthy.
John Stones
Stones’ mistakes towards the end of last season shouldn’t fool anyone, he is still a player with immense potential and could be a long-term starter for Arsenal.
The Gunners desperately another player to cover in central-defence and Stones’ on-ball ability would complement Koscielny’s no nonsense approach.
Expensive, yes, but Stones could easily become a club legend.
Fabinho
Monaco’s highly versatile Brazilian is the exact sort of utility man that would be perfect in the current Arsenal squad.
Whether he is filling in at right-back or playing as a 6, Fabinho is a consistently classy performer who would add depth to Arsenal’s weakest areas in their squad.
Hector Bellerin will need to be rotated, Xhaka will need rests and Fabinho kills those two birds as one comparatively inexpensive stone.
Lucas Lima
The Santos star has already attracted plenty of interest from around Europe and Lima could become Arsenal’s rotation option for Mesut Ozil.
Capable of playing out wide, Lima is most comfortable when playing just off the striker and the Brazilian is setup to adapt well to the European game.
In 2015, no player completed more dribbles or made more key passes than Lima.
