da prosport bet: Wolverhampton Wanderers could be targeting a striker as well as a centre-back in the January transfer window, according to The Athletic’s club correspondent Tim Spiers, who was talking ahead of their Premier League clash with Norwich City this weekend.
What’s he said?
da betsson: It is well known that manager Nuno Santo wants to bolster his playing squad next month, but it remains to be seen exactly what sort of targets he has in mind.
BirminghamLive provided a clue several months ago when they revealed that the club were aiming for further options centrally, in both defence and midfield.

But Spiers’ latest remarks contradict that slightly as he believes they need a forward as well as cover for the injured Willy Boly, he said:
“As for January, they’re a little bit short at centre-half as Willy Boly, who’s arguably their best defender, has been out since October and will be until February with a broken ankle. They’ve had three midfielders by trade at centre-half lately
“They need a forward as well. Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore have arguably been in the form of their careers but do need a bit of help from the bench.
“For all the magnificent work they do, I’m not sure that’s possible to go the full season at full pelt without a couple of additions in January.”
Is Nuno’s attitude changing?
The Portuguese boss has always operated with a small squad, the reasons for which he outlines here, and that’s very much been the case this season with no more than nine players featuring in 16 or more league games.
However, times might be changing with the club expected to play a total of 55 games come the summer, and that’s excluding any progress in the FA Cup, which begins next month, and in the Europa League, with the club being drawn to La Liga strugglers Espanyol.

These nine or so players can’t continue to carry the burden on their own, especially as that number could quite easily increase to over 60.
Injuries, suspensions and fatigue must all be considered, which is maybe why Nuno’s attitude is heading down a different path as Wolves continue to elevate themselves amongst the best England, and maybe soon Europe, has to offer.
And in other Wolves news, could Morgan Gibbs-White’s future at Molineux be thrown into doubt if they land this emerging Spanish prospect…?
